Heller raid increases Dorsey woes

Heller Ehrman has poached one of Dorsey & Whitney’s most senior corporate lawyers Wesley Fredericks, who has joined Heller’s New York office.

Fredericks is described by the Dorsey website as “a leader among his colleagues”. Fredericks was Dorsey’s deputy managing partner, a member of the firm’s management committee, and has held various management positions in the firm’s corporate group.

Joseph McLaughlin, chairman of Heller Ehrman’s New York office, said: “Over the last year, a number of leading corporate attorneys have joined our New York office, including Martin Levenglick from Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe and Kevin Collins, formerly co-chair of the life sciences practice at Dorsey & Whitney.

“Since our merger with Venture Law Group in 2003, we have continued to build our corporate company-side practice and capital markets practice with lateral partner additions across the firm, while building one of the leading company-side corporate practices in New York.”

Dorsey’s New York team has endured some heavy losses over the last year. Almost a year ago to the day, Washington DC’s Arnold & Porter made an eight-partner raid on the firm’s corporate and litigation teams in the Big Apple.

Dorsey were unavailable for comment.
