The chairman of Russian firm Egorov Puginsky Afanasiev & Partners has been appointed to the board of directors of the world’s largest aluminium producer, United Company Rusal (UC Rusal).
The news comes with the revelation that Linklaters helped to seal the merger between mining companies Rusal, Sual and Glencore to create UC Rusal.
Egorov chairman Dimitry Afanasiev joined UC Rusal’s board immediately after the merger was complete.
Afanasiev himself and his firm had been acting for Rusal on the merger for two years and had been advising on the development of the new company’s corporate governance.
Afanasiev said: “Asking a representative of a Russian law firm to sit on the board demonstrates the importance the aluminium company gives to developing a strong emphasis on corporate governance.”
