A recent push into banking by Matthew Arnold & Baldwin has seen the Watford firm win places on five banking panels – the latest that of HBOS.

Head of banking and finance Steve Janes, who was recruited last October from Mayer Brown Rowe & Maw, led a pitch to win a place on HBOS’s panel for smaller end work, of transactions of up to £25m.

The firm has also won places on the panels of Allied Irish Bank, Barclays, Clydesdale Bank and Royal Bank of Scotland.

The latest panel win comes at the same time as instructions from new client Taylor Nelson Sofres. The market information provider giant came to the firm with former Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer assistant Mark Glenister, who was recruited by Janes two months ago. Matthew Arnold is now carrying out corporate banking and treasury work for Taylor Nelson.

The new clients come as Matthew Arnold continues its recent lateral hiring spree.

Later this month, property partner Tim Brittain joins from SJ Berwin. Brittain’s key clients are understood to be Delancy Estates and Mapeley, although whether he will bring those clients to the Watford firm is unknown at this stage.

The firm has also taken on the former head of company commercial at Taylor Walton, Moira Myers. Myers was the partner responsible for winning her former firm a place on the Barclays lending panel.
