Shearman partner wins director role on JCRA

Shearman & Sterling antitrust partner Chris Bright has taken on a role of non-executive director of Jersey’s new Competition and Regulatory Authority (JCRA).

Bright took up the two-day-a-month post, which involves a single monthly board meeting, in September.

The small island, with a population of 80,000 people, is poised to demonopolise its telecommunications and postal services, a process the JCRA will oversee. Bright, as one of four non-executive directors at the JCRA, will also be responsible for examining pricing disparities between the Channel Islands and the UK mainland.

Jersey’s competition laws are yet to come into force.

Prior to joining Shearman & Sterling in 2001, Bright was head of Clifford Chance’s European competition practice.
