SJ Berwin has joined the slew of firms increasing newly qualified lawyers’ salaries to match the new market-wide figures.
The silver circle firm confirmed that it has increased NQ salaries to £55,000, up 10 per cent from £50,000 last year.
This follows a spate of salary increases across the City, after Linklaters kicked off the salary rises by announcing a 6 per cent increase in NQ salaries to £55,100 on 28 April, effective 1 May.
SJ Berwin is still finalising pay increases for its other associate bands, but is expected to match the market increases.
The rises follow an impressive financial year at the firm, which saw a 23 per cent jump in turnover to £150.5m in 2005-06 up from £122m the previous year.
Senior partner Jonathan Blake attributed the growth to an exceptional year in corporate and banking, with average profits per equity partner (PEP) expected to increase 15 per cent to £661,000.
