Clifford Chance has awarded its first scholarship to an Indian student under a scheme introduced in February this year.
The scheme offers two full scholarships to Indian advocates and solicitors to sit the Qualified Lawyers’ Transfer Test (QLTT) in Mumbai or Delhi. The scholarship covers the costs of tuition and the examination, which is around £1,360 per student.
The first full scholarship was awarded to lawyer Rohit Kumar, with the second still to be awarded. Clifford Chance is also awarding a third, partial scholarship to another lawyer, Promod Nair, because it received so many high-quality applications.
The Law Society is introducing half-yearly QLTTs in Mumbai and Delhi to allow Indian lawyers to qualify as English solicitors without having to travel to the UK.
