Brief

Two separate initiatives encouraging law firms to implement “green” housekeeping policies kick off this month.

The launch by the Environmental Law Foundation (ELF) of a new campaign to make lawyers more environmentally friendly coincides with the staging of a gala fundraising green dinner for leading members of the legal community.

ELF has been awarded £12,600 by the Government to encourage lawyers and their firms to undertake more recycling and to improve energy efficiency.

In a separate move, the charity Green Screen is hosting an evening on 7 October aimed at educating lawyers about good environmental practice and recent high-profile environmental cases.

The venue is the former Westminster County Court, now Browns restaurant, on St Martin's Lane in London, and speakers include Clive Anderson, Helena Kennedy and Jonathan Porritt. Entertainment themed around law and the environment will be shown. Tickets are £85, with all proceeds going to Green Screen's youth wing.
