Orchard in alliance link with Paris firm

Ambitious City firm Orchard and Paris-based firm CMC Societe d'Avocats have struck up the first partnership of what is aiming to be a new global

alliance.

Partner Ardavan Amir-Aslani at CMC says: “We are the first two partners of

this alliance, but our objective is to create the largest independent

network of firms across the world.”

He says the next step for the alliance is expansion into Italy, Spain and

the US.

Each member of the alliance will refer non-domestic work to partner firms.

Alliance firms will head their notepaper with all the firms' names and

will second lawyers to each other.

David Orchard, founder and senior partner of Orchard, says: “Orchard is a

very ambitious firm. We have already come a long way in our five years, but

it remains our intention to push ahead internationally.”

He adds that Orchard intends to expand by opening offices abroad as well

as through the new alliance.

Orchard opened a New York office last year, which it calls its

“pathfinder” for further expansion into the US.

CMC is situated in Paris' main business district of Parc Monceau.

It has six partners and 30 lawyers who specialise in corporate, tax,

securities, financial and commercial law.

Orchard has nine partners and 24 lawyers. It specialises in

company/commercial law.

The alliance was signed at Orchard's London offices.
