Berwin Leighton Paisner (BLP) is continuing to build its tax and trusts department with another recruit from Clifford Chance in the shape of private client partner Murray North.
North is the latest in a series of hires since the recruitment of Clifford Chance partner Michael Wistow as head of tax in 2007.
Head of trusts and personal tax Jonathan Kropman told The Lawyer: “In the last 10-15 years we’ve seen the emergence of family wealth, which is greater than the capitalisation of many plcs. If you can service the ultra-high-net-worth individuals and their wider wealth requirements then you’re creating a very valuable area for the firm and for the clients.”
BLP’s tax and trusts business, which also includes its charities practice, now numbers 23 partners and posted a revenues of some £18m for the past financial year. North will become the eighth private tax and trusts partner in the group.
