French law firms: a guide

Gide Loyrette Nouel: Traditional full-service firm with 350 lawyers in Paris. It is the only French practice with an international presence, but it has lost 17 partners in the past three years, bringing its worldwide partnership down to 73.

Jeantet & Associés: Traditional firm with a generalist focus but has lost five partners in the past 12 months.

Darrois Villey Maillot Brochier: Niche firm in securities and M&A. Sophisticated deals and clients, but small teams and no international element. Ten partners.

Bredin Prat: Niche firm in securities and M&A. Sophisticated deals and clients but small teams and no international element. Twenty partners.

Veil Armfelt Jourde La Garanderie: Traditional litigation firm with 15 partners, which has changed its focus since Henri Brandford Griffith joined in 1995. It is now also visible in stock exchange work.

Rambaud Martel: Medium-sized firm with 28 partners but with no international capability. Focuses on M&A, stock exchange, labour law, contract law, litigation and arbitration.

Moquet Borde & Associés: Medium-sized firm with a focus on M&A and litigation, but it is also losing partners.

Bureau Francis Lefebvre: Premier tax firm in France which recently formed an alliance with CMS Cameron McKenna. Recently lost a partner to Norton Rose.
