Christmas came early for a lucky bunch of Tulkinghorn's scribes in the shape of tickets to see Elton John live at Wembley Arena, courtesy of Berwin Leighton Paisner (BLP). Tulkinghorn never had managing partner Neville Eisenberg down as a rocker (if that's the appropriate term for what Elton does), but how wrong he was. Neither was he expecting the white stretch limo that arrived to escort us all there, complete with a well-stocked champagne bar. Full marks to our driver for the night, who managed to find his way out of the West End despite getting stuck on a few sharp corners.
It was enough to bring out the prima donna in us all. One journo was even spotted flicking V-signs (admittedly through impenetrable blacked-out windows) to a passing white van on the way home.
But before things got completely out of hand, a top night was had by all as we swayed along to such Elton classics as Rocket Man and Goodbye Yellow Brick Road. There was one brief low point, however, when BLP's David Collins and The Lawyer's Matheu Swallow discovered each other's football affiliations for Arsenal and Spurs respectively. Suddenly the conversation just went dead.
