Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer has completed a further healthcare acquisition for Cinven, with corporate partner David Higgins leading. The private equity house bought Spain’s USP Hospitales chain off Mercapital for E657m (£442.7m). USP owns 13 hospitals and 16 outpatient centres across Spain. Mercapital turned to Allen & Overy, while USP’s management was advised by Cuatrecasas. Higgins is fresh off advising Cinven on its £1.5bn auction of Slaughter and May client Bupa, when it bought 25 hospitals in the UK a month ago. USP is Cinven’s second deal in Spain since 2000. It was part of the E4.3bn (£2.9bn) acquisition of Amadeus Global Travel in 2005, on which Freshfields also advised.
