WilmerHale London employment chief” />Arnold & Porter has underscored its London growth strategy by snaring WilmerHale’s London head of employment to launch the firm’s own UK employment team.
Henry Clinton-Davis, who joined the firm as partner on Tuesday (6 May), will lead the Washington DC-based firm’s growth strategy in employment law as part of its firm’s wider growth plans for London and New York. Clinton-Davis works predominantly in the technology, pharma and life sciences sectors.
Arnold & Porter’s London office head, Tim Frazer, said: “The firm has been very clear about its plans to develop its New York and London offices. Henry is a very important part of this and we hope to see the employment team grow during the next year.”
Frazer continued that Clinton-Davis’ hire is crucial to developing London’s capabilities in employment but also as part of developing the corporate practice in the capital.
He added: “The next step is to build up corporate. London will always be an important financial centre and we have to build a strong corporate team to be a part of that.
“While the credit crunch has been damaging for the economy, our emphasis on regulatory matters in the US and Europe means we are in a good position at the moment.”
Earlier this year (January) Arnold & Porter hired Paula Levitan, the former general counsel of retailers Gap and Body Shop, to ramp up its corporate and real estate capabilities in its London office (The Lawyer, 21 January 2008).
Frazer commented: “We clearly do have the right platform in New York and London to build up and our various practice areas. Hires such as Henry and Paula are clearly important steps for us.”
