In brief: Telecoms privacy variable, says report

The London office of US firm Sidley & Austin has completed a report for the European Commission on the national laws in the 18 member states of the European Economic Area (EEA) relating to the protection of privacy and personal data in the telecommunications sector. The report reveals that most countries have legislation in place designed to protect individual privacy in telecommunications to a limited extent, but only a few provide the level of protection required by a draft commission directive on data protection and privacy.
