Hardly a film star's fortune

In The Lawyer, 29 July, Mr P Evans berates the payment of substantial fees to barristers who, because of their skill and intelligence, command these fees.

Am I alone in thinking that the fees paid to barristers are modest when compared to those paid to pop stars, film stars, models and the like whose talents seems somewhat more ephemeral.

Perhaps Mr Evans, in order to be fair and equitable, should persuade the Government that their income should likewise be curtailed. One does not know why Mr Evans feels so upset with the legal system nor why he thinks that it should be made more "consumer-friendly". The answers to those questions might well explain his letter.
