Washington DC-headquartered Covington & Burling has made two lateral partner hires to bolster its litigation offering in the US.
Covington has lured a partner each from Morrison & Foerster and Sonnenschein Nath & Rosenthal.
Securities litigation partner David Bayless is joining Covington’s San Francisco office from Morrison & Foerster, while litigation partner Michael Schlanger is joing the firm’s DC headquarters from Sonnenschein.
Schlanger is rejoining Covington after a 30-year absence. Schlanger said: “I was born and raised as a lawyer at Covington. In my heart, I never left Covington, and I am deeply honored to be invited to return home.”
Bayless is the eleventh partner in Covington’s burgeoning San Francisco office, which has witnessed a series of lateral hires over the last six months.
Covington, which has just shy of 500 lawyers, makes few lateral hires. In 2006, it brought in just six partners firmwide.
