Offshore law firm WSmiths has launched an office in Uruguay, which marks its second foreign opening in less than six months.
From September, the firm will have a representative office in the Uruguayan capital, Montevideo, which will tap into growth for investment funds and structured finance transactions in the region.
Managing partner Duncan Smith said: “Latin America always has been a very important region for us and many of our clients. Colleagues based in the region or doing business there expressed the wish for an office closer to their operations.”
Martin Litwak, who heads the firm’s Latin America practice, will be responsible for the new office.
In addition to this recent launch, British Virgin Islands-based WSmiths also opened an office in Hong Kong in February.
