Nabarro hires Dechert real estate head

Nabarro has made a significant hire in its property group, poaching Dechert‘s UK real estate chief Ciaran Carvalho.

Carvalho will joins Nabarro’s property group as a partner, having served as head of real estate at Dechert for six years.

Nabarro senior partner Simon Johnston said: “Ciaran has a fine reputation and is a well-known and well-respected lawyer in the real estate industry. He will be a strong addition to our partnership and real estate practice.”

Carvalho became head of real estate at Dechert following the defection of Chris Edwards to Charles Russell in 2002. Carvalho had been a partner at the US firm for more than 20 years and sat on the London management board.

Carvalho said he was looking forward to taking his career in a new direction at Nabarro, adding that he would be “focusing primarily on practice building”.

His key clients include ING Real Estate, GMAC, Realstar International, Land Securities and Starwood Capital.

The move brings the number of partners in Nabarro’s real estate practice to 37

In November the firm announced it would be reviewing the jobs of 22 staff, including 13 fee earners, in the real estate and commercial groups.

Dechert has also made cuts in its real estate and finance group this year, laying off 13 associates in the US.

UK managing partner Steven Fogel said: “We wish Ciaran all the best with this change.”
