The joint head of Harbottle & Lewis’ employment practice, Dermot Scully, has quit to form his own niche employment law firm, Dermot Scully Solicitors.
Scully helped build Harbottle’s employment practice over the past decade into a practice with a client list that includes Virgin Atlantic, Chrysalis and Ascent Media.
In particular, Scully developed a niche in employment law training for in-house lawyers. He has been a consultant at Harbottles since 2005 and for the past 12 months had been working three days a week.
His new practice will be based in Brighton, although it will continue to serve principally London-based clients.
A spokesperson for Harbottles said Scully’s decision was “a lifestyle choice” and that partner Marian Derham would continue to head the firm’s employment team.
