King & Spalding has elected product liability lawyer Robert Hays as the firm’s new chairman.
Hay will take over the helm of the Altanta-headquartered firm from 1 January 2006, when outgoing chairman Walter Driver’s second three-year term ends.
During Diver’s reign, King & Spalding has nearly tripled in size to more than 800 lawyers, expanded into Houston and London and increased its revenues by 500 per cent to more than $500m.
Hay, a specialist in product liability and mass tort litigation, has been a member of the firm’s management committee since 1999 and has led its tort and environmental litigation group since 1995.
His clients include General Motors, UPS, Merck, Shell, GlaxoSmithKline, ExxonMobil and The Coca-Cola Company.
