As ever, the judging panel is made up of a raft of industry experts, including Blackstone Chambers’ Dinah Rose QC, Music Choice general counsel Chris Johnstone, Sajid Hussein, head of legal EMEA, Bank of America and BT Retail general counsel Nigel Paterson.

This year’s judging panel benefits from decades of combined legal knowledge, with the inclusion of numerous lawyers who have just come to the end of their careers as practising solicitors. Lovells’ outgoing real estate chief Bob Kidby and former Dewey & LeBoeuf partner Graham Prentice are among them.

The Lawyer Awards, which take place in London’s Grosvenor House Hotel on 22 June, is about the celebration of excellence in the profession across private practice, the public sector, commerce and industry, and the bar. It is unquestionably the biggest night of the year for the legal profession and, given the huge number of entries received this year, the 2010 event promises to be bigger than ever.

While the judges nominate who they believe should win each category, The Lawyer editorial team is interviewing hundreds of lawyers and their clients to supplement the nominations.

The Lawyer was the first legal magazine to put together a senior advisory judging panel taken from the great and the good in City institutions and the media. The combination of this and The Lawyer’s own research has made these awards the most comprehensive and incisive reflection of the commercial legal market.
