Keen to be seen to be green

Lights on, lights off… that’s what will be happening across many businesses tonight in an attempt to mark the UN’s World Environment Day.

Lights on, lights off… that’s what will be happening across many businesses tonight in an attempt to mark the UN’s World Environment Day.

But Linklaters and Eversheds have to be top of the pile for effort.

The big one for Eversheds is on Friday, when it holds its ‘Office Clear Up Day’. The event does what it says on the tin – lawyers will be recycling anything in the office that can be recycled.

The incentive is that it will be an official dress-down day for those who take part, so clients should expect many Eversheds partners in chinos and polo shrts by the end of the week.

Linklaters, meanwhile, has gone mad for the whole thing. See story.

Full marks to Linklaters and Eversheds, then. But we liked the weary comment from Macfarlanes senior partner-elect Charles Martin best.

“I go round switching the lights off, because I’ve now got a responsibility to maintain profitability,” he said with searing honesty. “Oh, and we’ve got a tiny car park.”
