Stephenson Harwood is reinforcing its financial services capability with the hire of a corporate partner from Scottish firm McGrigors.

John Buyers joins Stephenson Harwood in the firm’s commercial, outsourcing and technology group.

He is a specialist in technology corporate deals and has also advised on several Financial Services Authority-compliant technology deals.

Buyers spent time in-house at Cap Gemini Ernst & Young and technology company Elonex before joining McGrigors. He is dual-qualified in England and Ireland.

He said his background fitted naturally with his new firm’s strengths in the financial services sector.

Stephenson Harwood chief executive Sunil Gadhia said: “We’re focusing more and more on the financial services sector and we have a very strong banking client base where we do a lot of technology and outsourcing-related work. John’s expertise and relationships fit that profile.”

The hire comes towards the end of what is expected to be a strong financial year for Stephenson Harwood, which last year recorded a turnover of £58.6m.
