Fountain Court Chambers is to appoint a chambers director to replace its departing

senior clerk, Barry Down.

Down's departure, revealed last month by The Lawyer, was prompted by administrative reorganisation at the chambers.

It is understood he was unhappy at the direction the set was taking, although Fountain Court says he will act as a consultant during the shake-up.

The new chambers director will have overall responsibility for running the leading commercial set and will work alongside Mark Watson, who has been promoted to head of clerking, and chambers administrator Madeline Russell.

The set has indicated that it wants a qualified solicitor to take on the newly-created position and it is understood to be looking for a senior litigation partner.
