Washington DC’s Arnold & Porter has continued its expansionist strategy with an eight-partner raid on Dorsey & Whitney’s New York office.
The raid is part of Arnold & Porter’s focus on beefing up core practice areas. The firm took six New York Fulbright & Jaworski securities enforcement lawyers two weeks ago.
The Dorsey group, boasting senior partners and practice heads, will bolster New York further. Both the litigation and corporate departments will benefit and the firm will have a hedge funds practice for the first time.
Dorsey’s head of financial services and hedge funds Michael Griffin is joining Arnold & Porter with hedge funds experts JP Bruynes and Robert Holton. They are joined by corporate transactions and private equity partner Robert Wessely.
Three litigation partners are also joining. Former co-head of Dorsey’s international litigation and arbitration group Ramon Marks is joining with securities litigation co-head Stewart Aaron and IP litigator James Swire, formerhead of Dorsey New York.
Grant Vingoe, formerly the partner in charge of Dorsey’s Toronto office, has also quit for Arnold & Porter.
Dorsey was unavailable for comment.
