Last week saw the launch of the all-new logo for that merger of equals between Orrick and Dewey Ballantine. You can tell it’s a merger of equals by the new design – ‘O’.

The name chosen for the new US behemoth, Dewey Orrick, instantly provided Tulkinghorn’s hacks with minutes of pleasure conjuring up alternative names. ‘Dorrk’ was first off the blocks, closely followed by the almost Dickensian ‘Little Dorrick’ and the contraction ‘Dorr’ (as in revolving). Skipping over the frankly wrong ‘OD’, the pithiest was the Homer-esque ‘Do!’.

But it was left to the trusty anagram generator to produce the day’s best: ‘Dicey Rework.’ Now why didn’t they think of that?
