"We're looking at streamlining and providing aggressive deterrents against time-wasting cases," says a DTI spokesman. This review of employment tribunal procedure is on course to report next month.

According to the DTI, the review is operating "under existing law", with no powers to change legislation.

In particular, the Government will be looking at providing more detailed claim forms so claims can be better understood by the respondent, greater powers to dismiss weaker claims without involving respondents, and provisions for costs to be awarded against unreasonable behaviour.
