I was pleased to see Legal & General considering a unit to deal with solicitors and accountants (The Lawyer 14 March).

Allied Dunbar established such a unit last year and I can confirm that the legal profession does have different methods of working to those of the IFA market and that a tailored service for solicitors from life companies is well received.

We believe that a significant number of financial services consumers are happiest being advised by solicitors and we hope that the legal profession will increase its activity in the market. If it grasps this opportunity to the full, then there will be plenty of room for Legal & General, Allied Dunbar and a number of other life companies to do business with it.
