EMW, Eversheds drive Jardine’s Wayside buy

EMW and Eversheds have both landed roles on Jardine Motors Group’s acquisition of car dealership Wayside Group.

The deal, which is one of the most significant UK automotive mergers since the recession, brings Jardine Motors’ turnover to more than £1.2bn, making it the sixth-largest dealer group in the UK.

Eversheds advised long-time client Jardine Motors. Corporate partner Neil Matthews led on the deal, assisted by senior associates Mark Satterly and Mark Finch and solicitors Stacy Aspden and Philippa Byrne.

EMW advised Wayside Group. Corporate principal Nick Lloyd led on the deal, aided by real estate principal Rob Goffman and associate Farrah Tejani.

Matthews said: “This is a significant acquisition for longstanding client Jardine Motors and we’re very satisfied to have been able to assist them in completing this transaction and helping them to fulfil their strategic objectives. We look forward to advising them on future matters.”

Jardine Motors is a top 10 UK car retailer, employing around 2,000 staff. In 2010, the company turned over £931m. Wayside is a top 30 UK car retailer, with a 2010 turnover of £305m and roughly 900 staff.

The acquisition will boost Jardine’s representation with Audi and BMW/Mini.
