Erskine mourns Richard Sykes QC

•Erskine Chambers’ legendary former head Richard Sykes QC has died at the age of 73. Before retiring from the bar in 1999 Sykes was renowned as the most eminent barrister working in the company law world, with one client stating that “company law was whatever Richard said it was”. Sykes, who was called to the bar in 1958, taking silk in 1981, was instrumental in company law reforms before his retirement. Paying tribute to Sykes, Erskine senior clerk Mike Hannibal said: “Richard’s success at the bar did nothing to alter the thoughtful, charming and unassuming man that he was and the professional respect that he attracted was matched on a personal level from all those that came into contact with him.”
