Weil Gotshal scores big with Soundy scoop

Weil Gotshal & Manges has lured former Travers Smith Braithwaite private equity rainmaker Mark Soundy back into the law.

Soundy left Travers Smith at the beginning of June, ostensibly to take a career break. However Soundy has decided to stay in the legal market and will join Weil Gotshal’s London office on 6 September.

The move is a huge boon for Weil Gotshal which narrowly missed out on recruiting leading private equity partner Mathew Layton, along with partner James Baird from Clifford Chance earlier this year, as exclusively revealed by The Lawyer’s weekly Grapevine news service on 12 May.

Soundy adds to Weil Gotshal’s other big name hires in private equity which include David Aknin, the much sought after Parisian-based specialist who joined the US firm from Linklaters last year.
