London firm Kingsford Stacey Blackwell is due to open a specialist personal injury claims unit this week staffed by 60 lawyers, making it one of the largest in the UK.
Kingsford Stacey went on a massive recruitment drive in May, bringing in 50 new fee earners to deal with calls from the public.
The firm has taken new offices in Fetter Lane to house the staff.
The expansion follows the firm's success in securing work from “a few major insurance companies”.
Head of personal injury Simon Pinner refuses to name the clients, but claims the new office will be dealing with more than one per cent of the UK's motor accident injury legal market.
“We have secured a significant amount of new work,” says Pinner. “And it is all on relatively long-term contracts. This is not a speculative expansion.”
He expects the new set-up to attract clients, and says the expansion will continue. “We have got room for another 20 or 30 people,” he says.
Managing partner Charles Rankmore says: “This has been a period of intensive and extraordinary growth for this department, and the rest of the firm is not far behind.”
