Walkers raids Mourant for Jersey expansion

Walkers has poached two lawyers from offshore rival Mourant du Feu & Jeune and flown in a partner from its Cayman Islands presence to launch a Jersey-based structured finance offering.

Partner Heather Bestwick has relocated from the firm’s Cayman headquarters to head the new asset finance, capital markets and structured finance group in Jersey.

She is supported by associates Michael Johns and James Gaudin, who joined from the Jersey presence of Mourant earlier this year.

Associate Jonathan Heaney has also relocated from Walkers’ London office to provide funds expertise.

The moves come as Walkers looks to develop a structured finance capability in Jersey following its merger with Jersey-based Crills Advocates last July. Crills has historically been strong in AIM listings, but has lacked a notable structured finance capability.
