Howrey raids boutique for arbitration push

Howrey has bolstered its Paris office with the hire of arbitration star Jean de Hauteclocque, one of the founders of dispute resolution boutique Hauteclocque-Larroumet-Tessler.

De Hauteclocque’s practice focuses on arbitration in insolvency and bankruptcy proceedings in Europe and Latin America.

At Howrey he will coordinate his work with London arbitration head Melanie Willems.

Willems said: “It’s not just adding another pair of arms to the team. Jean has enormous energy and is great fun.”

De Hauteclocque and Willems were both partners at Lovells between 2000 and 2003 before de Hautclocque left to set up his own firm.

Before joining Lovells, de Hautclocque was head of litigation at Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer in Paris.

Willems said: “I did know Jean well at that stage and now we can build on that.”

Howrey has further plans to strengthen its European dispute resolution group with the development of the arbitration practice across Europe.
