The World Cup blues

It's not every day that a lawyer gets awarded The Order of the Sacred Treasure, Gold Rays with Rosette by His Majesty the Emperor of Japan. But after spending nigh on 40 years fostering relations between the US and Japan, which included setting up and running an office in Tokyo, Baker & McKenzie's senior counsel Jack Beem would appear to be a deserving recipient of such an honour.
Nevertheless, Tulkinghorn reckons Beem must be a bit upset at the choice of location for the prestigious presentation ceremony. For during the one year that Japan plays host to the world's biggest football competition, the powers that be have decided to leave the land of the World Cup to go instead to the Consulate General of Japan in… Chicago.
