Museum sticks neck out over grim exhibit

A GENTLE reminder of the rather more clear-cut days of British justice when a criminal was “hanged by the neck until dead” has been put in place at Nottingham's Galleries of Justice .

The national tourist attraction is the proud owner of a full-scale replica set of 1880 gallows, which will be the centre piece of a new exhibition, 'Condemned'.

The gallows were bought from Granada Television, which used them for the crime series 'In Suspicious Circumstances'.

Visitors will be able to see the grim exhibit at the city's 19th Century Shire Hall in April this year. They will also be able to take part in a public trial and see Victorian justice for themselves.
