Albanian lawyers make tour of duty

SIX Albanian lawyers are visiting a selection of legal institutions as part of a fact-finding visit to the UK starting this week.

The officials, visiting the country for three weeks, aim to get a full picture of the British process of justice.

Hosted by the Lord Chancellor's Department, the visit includes trips to the Old Bailey, the Royal Courts of Justice and the Crown Prosecution Service.

The LCD hosted a similar trip for Albanian lawyers, including the deputy minister of justice, last year. Other trips have been organised for US and Polish lawyers.

A spokeswoman for the LCD says the visitors will also attend specially-arranged seminars.

The Bar European Group is focusing on relations between the EU and the wider world for its Seville conference.

The event, to be held on 19 and 20 May, will cover the EU and public international law, international trade and the treatment of third country nationals and services in the EU.

The group's president, Mr Justice Laws, and Advocate General Francis Jacobs will chair sessions.
