Taylor Wessing really should take some media training.

One of Tulkinghorn’s scribes telephoned the firm’s offices in London, asked for the press office and was told by the switchboard operator: “I’m sorry, but we can’t connect calls to individuals.”

The scribe did not relent and, with a view to complaining at the highest level, asked to speak to none other than Taylor Wessing’s head of corporate finance.

The response was: “We can’t just connect calls to individuals, we’re too busy in the company right now.”

“Firm, surely?” wondered Tulkinghorn’s scribe in an attempt to ease the tensions, but was only rewarded in his efforts with a dial-tone.

Tulkinghorn suspects Taylor Wessing’s finance team may have outsourced most of its work to switchboard to deal with the department’s 55 per cent growth posted at the half-year stage.

Tulkinghorn lauds such efficiency and leveraging of resources.
