Hill Dickinson’s Manchester office has recruited its first patent attorney in a bid to establish itself as a full-service IP/IT practice.
Bruce Jones has joined from the Bristol office of Hewlett-Packard, where he worked on patent prosecution and filing for the past six years.
Patent work is one way a firm can demonstrate its commitment to IP, according to Jones. “There are a lot of law firms that purport to deal with IP and in that ostensibly crowded marketplace it serves the firm well to demonstrate that they really do,” he said.
Jones’s new role involves extensive patent infringement and vaildity work and he has expertise on German and US litigation. The Hill Dickinson team, which also includes associates Samantha Lansbury and Shelley Thomas, is seeking to expand to include another patent attorney at a junior level.
Jones completed the bar vocational course and the intention is that he will become a partner in the 11-person team headed by Philip Woods.
