Peter Carter-Ruck and Partners, the leading defamation practice, has lost media partner Chris Hutchings to Charles Russell.
Hutchings, a specialist in publishing and broadcasting law who counts Hello magazine among his clients, says he looks forward to joining the booming practice.
Hutchings says: “The media and communications team [at Charles Russell] has grown exponentially, last year growth was nearly 100 per cent in terms of business, but they lacked publishing and broadcasting experience. I am hoping to build that area.
“I have been at Peter Carter-Ruck for 10 years. This is my first, and I hope, my only move.”
Last year Hutchings won a malicious falsehood claim, worth approximately £250,000, for Hello against OK magazine which had sent out false circulation figures for their bitter rival. The magazine has instructed him again on his arrival at Charles Russell.
On his reasons for leaving Peter Carter-Ruck, Hutchings says: “I want to be somewhere that has a bigger media department, that covers a slightly broader practice area and to complement my experience and my clients in a bigger team.”
In addition to his broadcasting and publishing practice, Hutchings has a large number of sports clients and considerable IP experience.
He joins a team which is now 35 strong.
Peter Carter-Ruck was unavailable for comment at the time of going to press.
