For the second consecutive year, insurance heavyweight Ince & Co has retained its entire trainee intake.
Since a low point in 2002 when the firm took just seven of its 12-strong intake on as newly-qualifieds, Ince has consistently retained more than 95 per cent of its trainees.
For the past three years the firm has sought to grow its transactional practice to account for a quarter of turnover. The practice currently contributes 18 per cent, with retention of trainees expected to underpin further growth.
“Junior members of staff are given great opportunities to work on cases and they know their opinion is valued,” said recruitment manager Claire Kendall. “They aren’t there to make the tea.”
Ince promoted four associates in the shipping insurance and shipping litigation groups to partnership in each of the past two financial years. Meanwhile, at least one of this year’s intake of newly-qualifieds has joined the shipping team and two have joined insurance.
According to research carried out by The Lawyer’s sister publication Lawyer 2B, Ince & Co was one of five firms to retain 100 per cent of its trainee intake this year.
