The partner exodus from Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer’s European offices has continued, with Brussels corporate partner Klaus Heinemann leaving the firm for Marx Van Ranst Vermeersch & Partners.
Heinemann’s departure ends his 16 year stint in Freshfields’ Brussels office, 10 of which he spent as partner. He is the second partner in a week to leave Freshfields’ European practice, after Italian finance head Stefano Sennhauser defected to Allen & Overy.
Heinemann’s practice focuses on M&A and corporate work, an area he will continue to work on at Belgian independent firm Marx Van Ranst.
Marx Van Ranst name partner Nicole Van Ranst, said: “We are very happy to have Klaus with us, and to see that independent law firms like us are attractive to partners of large international law firms such as Freshfields.”
She added: “The fact that we are an independent law firm and not part of an international law firm will put Klaus in an excellent position to attract interesting corporate and commercial law work from abroad, in particular Germany.”
Marx Van Ranst has nine partners and 29 lawyers in total.
