De Brauw poised to restart Linklaters talks

Linklaters & Alliance Dutch firm De Brauw Blackstone Westbroek is poised to decide whether to restart merger talks with Linklaters.

Partners from the Dutch firm will meet this week, and part of the agenda is a vote on whether to re-enter the discussions. It is expected that the majority of the partners will be in favour.
Talks broke down last April over the failure of the 90-partner Dutch firm to agree a restructuring that would have seen certain practice areas, considered non-core by Linklaters, to be cut.
Since then the firm has continued to have a good relationship with Linklaters, remaining a close ally and referring work on a regular basis.
However, the split cast doubts on Linklaters’ international strategy and whether it would be able to achieve a merger with a firm the size of De Brauw.
