Richards Butler appoints first female head to Brussels office

Richards Butler has appointed Katharine Baragona as the head partner of the firm's all-female Brussels office.

Baragona's appointment marks the first time a woman has been appointed to head one of the firm's overseas offices.

She qualified as an attorney in California before joining Richards Butler in 1990 and training as an English solicitor.

Baragona is a specialist consultant to the EC and has advised the governments of Lithuania, Uzbekistan, Azerbaijan, Kyrghyzstan and Georgia on investment, trade and competition matters.

She and the office's other solicitor, senior associate Lis Blunsdon, will focus on the firm's energy practice.

“We're the only practice in Brussels that is energy driven,” said Baragona. “And in a male dominated sector like energy it doesn't hurt to be female.”
