Outer Temple Chambers’ Paul Garlick QC has been appointed as an international judge for war crimes to the criminal and appellate divisions of the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Former Liberal Democrat leader and High Representa-tive to Bosnia and Herzeg-ovina Lord Paddy Ashdown made the appointment.
Garlick has been chosen as one of nine judges to form the new court, which will eventually replace the International Criminal Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia (ICTY) in The Hague.
“It’s not going to be an easy task, but it’s going to be an important task,” said Garlick. “It’s important that the court does begin its work as soon as possible, and that its reputation is equal to that of the ICTY in The Hague.”
Initially, Garlick’s term of office is two years, extendable for a further two years. He begins his new role on 2 May.
