At some points in a legal career, the humiliating tasks outnumber the fun ones. Tulkinghorn has heard through his network of spies that Nabarro has just added to the former with its Nabarro Day.
This is a pro bono initiative on a grand scale, where lawyers get one day off a year – paid, of course – to do something worthwhile for the community. Tulkinghorn applauds this approach and thinks more firms should follow suit.
But he is not clear on how the jobs get handed around the lawyers. Tulkinghorn is quite sure that the partners who found themselves mucking out the pigs at Hackney City Farm drew some kind of short straw.
