Turkish maritime firm Gur & Inal has split in two after three lawyers left to set up their own specialist corporate and shipping firm in Istanbul.
The breakaway group, whose new firm will be called Inal Law Office, were motivated by a desire to reduce overheads and to provide a more corporate-focused service.
Gur & Inal was formed in 1994 by Seyma Inal, the most senior lawyer at Inal Law Office, and respected lawyer Tevfik Gur, chairman of the legal affairs committee of the Turkish-American Chamber of Commerce.
Gur & Inal’s remaining lawyers will continue to handle a lot of local collisions and salvage work, charterparty disputes, marine insurance, ship finance and ship arrests.
Inal said: “The Turkish economy is strengthening and there’s never been a better time to invest in Turkey. That creates a demand for specialist law firms with an international outlook and also a good knowledge of global shipping.”
