Muckle compounds Watson Burton exit woes

Watson Burton insolvency chief Andrew Cawkwell has joined Newcastle firm Muckle to lead its restructuring and insolvency team, becoming the third practice head to leave the firm for a North East rival in the past year.

Watson Burton has been hit by 10 partner defections in the past year. Real estate chief Simon Scougall left for homebuilder and long-term Watson Burton client Bellway earlier this month, while wealth management head Keith Hately and senior partner Rob Langley both quit to join Muckle.

Other exits include technology head Ann Lewin, property partner David Bowden, personal injury specialist Lee Dixon and employment partner Paul McGowan.

Cawkwell said: “Muckle has a clear strategy for success and it’s great to feel part of that. I’m looking forward to building Muckle’s reputation as the standout firm for helping North East businesses avoid insolvency.”
