Hammond Suddards is poaching a partner from Halliwell Landau as part of a nationwide corporate finance expansion drive.
Darren Warburton moves to Hammonds' Manchester office next month.
He will be joined by Garretts senior corporate finance manager in Manchester, Paul Ellaby, who will become a partner when he arrives at Hammonds.
William Downs, managing partner of Hammonds in Manchester, says: “You will see expansions across the board. But we need the right people.”
He says Warburton and Ellaby were head-hunted and adds: “We have been looking for additions for a long time and have finally found people of the right calibre.”
Downs hopes the two new partners will bring clients with them, but adds: “We are more interested in what these lawyers can do.”
Warburton is a mainstream M&A specialist. Ellaby also specialises in M&A work but focuses on the technology sector.
Downs says Hammonds is expanding its corporate finance presence because the market is vibrant. “We are trying to increase our market share,” he says.
Earlier this month, Hammonds in London took on corporate finance partner Martin Thomas from the now disbanded Edward Lewis (The Lawyer, 7 February).
