A five-year-old boy who has just learned to write has been told to explain in writing why he should not be deported. Patrick Wandia Njuguna, who was born in the UK, received a letter on Christmas Eve telling him that if he wished to avoid being deported to Kenya, he should 'attach to the form a statement of the reasons why you object to removal'. Njuguna is appealing before an immigration tribunal. If he loses he faces being deported without his mother, whose own appeal comes before the High Court later in the year. Campaigners have argued that the family faces persecution if deported. Questions have also been raised as to why it has taken five years to consider the mother's application for asylum.
